Softball Team Falls in Regional Title Game

KUTZTOWN--The Bloomsburg University softball team's bid for an NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional championship came to an end on Sunday with a 7-0 loss to Lock Haven in the title game.

Bloomsburg had reached the title game with an earlier 2-1 win over East Stroudsburg University in an elimination game. In the game, the Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Kayleen Sidisky (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) singled, moved to second on a bunt single by Jess Rosin (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) and took third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alyssa English (Wallacetown/Philipsburg-Osceola). After East Stroudsburg tied the game in the bottom of the first, the Huskies took the lead for good with a run in the top of the third. Pinch-runner Jess Snader (Mount Joy/Donegal) scored on English's single for a 2-1 lead.

Bloomsburg pitcher Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) pitched 5.2 innings of relief to earn the win.

In the title, Lock Haven's Kristin Erb pitched a two-hit shut out as the Lady Eagles defeated Bloomsburg. Erb (36-2) struck out 10 over seven innings.

Lock Haven (49-3), the defending NCAA Division Champion, got on the board in the second inning on RBI hits by Sarah Norris and Nancy O'Connor. The Lady Eagles put two more on the board in the sixth inning. Norris drove in a run on a groundout and Brittany Pavelski scored on an error.

In the top of the seventh, the Lady Eagles put the game away with three more runs. For Bloomsburg, Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) and Snader each had a hit.

Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) pitched the first two innings for Bloomsburg, striking out three and giving up two runs. Fisher pitched the remaining five innings. She struck out eight. Bloomsburg ends it season with a 38-15 record.
